Sep 25: Film Screening and Stammtisch @ MMB
"We are happy to present to you once again the monthly Stammtisch. We start with the screening of the movie Liberated Zone in German with English sub-titles.
The film is about football in a small village in East Germany. The "liberated zone" is but a bitterly ironic nickname for the former GDR after reunification. It has been liberated above all from any moral constraints and beneath the surface there is a simmering latent violence with racist undertones. After the screening join us at Café Max for the Stammtisch. Liberated Zone - A film by Norbert Baumgarten Germany, 2002, 93’ Film + Stammtisch 25.09.2008 6.15 p.m. Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan German with English sub-titles All are welcome! Sep 20: Pancham - A Musical Tribute "A true celebration: Unlike our earlier concerts, we hope to give a new dimension to the "Pancham - A Musical Tribute" concert. This concert is special to Zansam for many reasons. It is our second ticketed concert in Bangalore (after the success of Nostalgia Night in 2007). This concert is also a tribute to the legend of R. D. Burman, arguably the greatest composer Indian film music has seen to date. As a celebration, we look to give an air of festivity to the evening and the venue through decorations, an exhibition of paintings, a freely distributed souvenir on the life and music of R.D. Burman...and the music to follow. Just like our last concert, we hope to bring the audiences to their feet, dancing to PanchamDa's memorable and foot tapping music". More Details at Zansam site. 0 comments

Ashok Kumar, Shiva Pathak, Itisha Peerbhoy and Bharat Kumar (Tickets: Rs 100. For bookings call Anil at 9448279252.) Georg Büchner's Woyzeck is one the most celebrated plays in the German theatre repertory and has aroused much curiosity and fascination since it was first written in the 1830s. At one level, the play is a gripping story of love, betrayal and madness, a journey into the dark heart of human jealousy. At another, it is a nuanced exploration of the dehumanizing effects of poverty and a scathing statement on hypocrisy and moral boundaries. Woyzeck is the first play in Western dramatic literature to politicize tragedy and feature a commoner as a tragic figure. Franz Woyzeck is a peasant-soldier whose fate is sealed as much by his own actions as by the forces of oppression in nineteenth century Prussian society. The play explores lust, infidelity, brutality, depravity and murder with a radical vision and compact intensity unequalled in the history of drama. A new script of Woyzeck has been specially created for this production. The script underscores Woyzeck's lack of voice and agency, his helplessness and despair, and his gradual disintegration as he is bullied and tormented by his superiors, subjected to bizarre medical experiments by the army doctor, and betrayed by his beautiful and vivacious mistress. Supported by the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Bangalore. This production is unsuitable for audiences below the age of 16. " 2 comments
