Oct 6: Youth Padyatra by Brahma Kumaris
"Hi All,

One major event is happening throughout India and soon going to touch Bangalore as well. I am sharing here how you can be a part of this Mega event.

A bit about the organization -

For those who might not be aware of them, 'Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya' is a Socio-Spirituo-Educational Organization. This organization works towards building a better society by means of spiritual studies and meditation as well as Value practices. ( www.brahmakumaris.com and www.bkwsu.com ).

Across India, the Youth Wing of this organization is conducting the World's biggest Padyatra (marches by Youths) covering over 25000 km conducting over 15000 programmes on the way. There will be 31 routes for the padyatras that converge into 9 cities. Four of these - from Belgaum, Kanyakumari, Rameshwaram and Trivandrum - will be converging in Bangalore. The main aim and objectives of this rally are:

-Awareness for adoption of Values in Life
-To inspire youths towards constructive & creative activities
-Drugs De-addiction and Awareness of Cancer
-Re-establishment of Indian Glory through revealing our Golden History
-Development of Leadership qualities in Youths
-Awareness of AIDS control through self-restraint and value based Lifestyle
-Re-establishing faith in HIV Positive persons
-Abolition of Blind Faith
-Child Education Awareness

These 4 groups converge in Bangalore on 6th evening. Recently there had been city wide competitions and informal games conducted for the Youths. Going ahead, there will be activities related to Environment awareness, Padyatra through out the city on 7th october and finally a grand finale on 8th October in Fort High School Ground.

On such occasions, each one of you is an ideal medium to reach out to various sections of the society and serve them.

So, Brahma Kumaris-Bangalore would like to have you as part of these grand programmes, being part as Volunteers in various areas.

The areas where you would be helping in this programme are:

1. Supervising of security and seating arrangements on the 8th October programme on Fort High School Ground.
2. Help managing the crowd and let the Padyatra proceed peacefully on the roads of Bangalore (for 7th Oct).
3. Get actively involved in the "Swarnim Bharat Sapling" (Environmental consciousness) project by preparing seed balls and doing plantation (the date and time will get finalize by today evening. But will be on some holiday).
4. If you are aware of anyone who could sponsor some shoes for these Padyatris, that is also a great help.

The organization has many youths who do service. You would be joining them in the efforts.

The interested ones can directly contact
B.K. Girish: bk.girish AT gmail.com,
B.K. Rekha: rekha.vallishayee AT hcl.in or bkrekha AT gmail.com "

Airlines joke
Neat Joke. Got it in an email. Re-hash of an old one.

A guy at an airport bar in Mumbai noticed a beautiful young woman sitting
next to him. He thought to himself, "Wow, she's so gorgeous she must be a
flight attendant. But which airline does she work for?"

Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and uttered the Jet slogan:
"Joy of Flying?" She gave him a blank, confused stare and he immediately
thought to himself, "Guess she doesn't work for Jet".

A moment later, another slogan popped into his head. He leaned towards her
again, "Emotionally yours?" She gave him the same blank look. He mentally
kicked himself, and scratched Sahara off the list.

Next he tried the Kingfisher slogan: "Fly the good times?"

This time the woman turned on him, "What the f*** do you want?"

The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair, and said... "Ahhh, PIA!"

--

PIA slogan: "We're not happy till you're not happy"

Rangashankara September 2006

Hi,
October?s round the corner and for Ranga Shankara, it means the big festival time. Most of you have been on the journey with us from Oct 2004 and know what to expect ? a grand feast of Indian Theatre. We will send you the complete information about the fest shortly.
But that does not stop Ranga Shankara from bringing you the best of Indian theatre in September! Kreative opens the month with the Pramod Shiggaon directed comedy ?Heegadre Hege?. After several Kailasam plays and Suri?s ?Neenaanaadre Naaneenena?, this play is pulling audiences by the hundreds for its serious comedy! Rangayana?s much acclaimed Kannada adaptation of Anton Chekov?s ?Seagull? is scheduled for 9&10. A grand production honed to perfection, this one is a must-watch too.
The sprucing up of the theatre for the fest will have to happen sometime! So the theatre will remain closed for its annual maintenance between 11 and 25th September.
We reopen with the Ashish Sen directed Deepak Joshi?s ?Of God and Country? a solo act featuring Pathy Aiyar on 26 & 27. Atul Kumar (our Festival Director for Fest ?04) from Company Theatre brings Eugene Ionesco?s ?The Chairs?. The play offers magnificent insight into human thoughts which transpire in old people; that of loneliness and the absurd, the wish to hide a life of despair and unfulfilled dreams. The play is on between 28 and 1st October. The play is running in both Hindi and English.
See you at RS!

Workshop: Global Business- Expansion Overseas

One day workshop on
Global Business-
Expansion Overseas
By an Eminent Faculty
Date : 14 Sept 06 Venue: JW Marriott, Juhu, Mumbai
Date : 23 Sept 06 Venue: The Leela Palace, Bangalore
Reserve Bank of India has progressively relaxed the various remittances of foreign exchange for current account and capital account transactions. Powers have also been extensively delegated to Banks authorised to deal in Foreign Exchange to allow remittances outside India for various purposes.
Indian corporates are increasingly availing the opportunities in the global market for expansion of their business by setting up Subsidiaries, joint ventures and collaborations.
Mergers and acquisitions of overseas entities have also been attempted by many Corporates of India. We find that Indian MNC?s are emerging in the global arena.
Princeton recognizes these developments and felt that there are knowledge and skill gaps
in seizing the Global opportunities and evolve appropriate strategies to form suitable organizational structures abroad and optimize profit without violating any of the provisions of FEMA and the Guidelines issued by RBI from time to time. Accordingly,
a one day programme has been drawn up for those who propose to invest abroad and also those who have already set up but need on course corrections and continue to ensure strict compliance. The details of the programme are as under.
OBJECTIVE
To up date the participants with the latest provisions on CROSS BORDER INVESTMENTS, sharpen their skills for evolving STRATEGY for investment, familiarize with Mergers and Acquisitions, and conduct periodical performance evaluation and timely reporting to the Regulatory Authorities.
COURSE CONTENTS
  • Government Policy on Overseas Investment
  • Regulatory provisions under FEMA 1999
  • Areas of scope for Indian Entrepreneurship
  • Appropriate strategy - Setting up a Liaison office, Branch, Joint venture, Subsidiary
  • On course expansion and correction ? setting up of a second generation company- setting up of an overseas holding company ? pooling of profits and Tax free countries.

Sept 6/7: MELVILASAM in Bangalore
"MELVILASAM play on Sept 6 & 7

Post Onam, Malayalees in Bangalore would get to witness the play
"Melvilasam" . The play marks the directorial debut of Soorya
Krishnamoorthy, founder of the popular SOORYA stage and Film Society,
which is the largest cultural society in Asia. His popular Soorya
Festival is the largest and longest Festival of Asia (75 days).

The play narrates the plight of a jawan named Ram Chandar, who murders
his superior officer and the entire story seeks to understand the
reasons that compelled the soldier to commit the murder during court
martial. The story depicts the relentless fight between the privileged
and oppressed society and also questions accepted notions of
discipline and hierarchy. The drama is set against the backdrop of
life in the cantonment and is inspired on the military stories
narrated to Soorya by his friend the late Gopi Poojappura.

Ammu, a little girl appears in the play as the daughter of the jawan
and remains as the main character of the play. The entire theme is
built around her point of view about life.

Speaking on Melvilasam, Krishnamoorthy says " The inspiration for such
venture was born, out of the desire to bring realistic drama back to
the stage"

The sound of the typewriting machine is present throughout the play
like a background score and Krishnamoorthy offers it as a tribute to
Gopi Poojappura who was a typist in the Army. Lines from V.
Madusudhanan Nair's famous poem "Gandhi" are also recited at the
beginning of the play.

The play is organised by Acethetik Consultants, a city based event
management company and will be staged at *Guru Nanak Bhavan auditorium
at 7.30 pm on Sept 6 and 7*.This will be the first time the play would
be performed in Bangalore. Tickets will be priced at Rs 200/- and Rs
150/- respectively. For tickets call: 99001 43848"
