"Its time again for an other edition of Levi's Sunday Jam brought to you by Guruskool . This time it is held at the beautiful Open Air Amphitheatre at the SHANKARA FOUNDATION on sunday the April 1st, 5pm onwards. The rapidly gaining popular band from Bangalore "Lounge Piranha" is being featured at this Sunday jam , along with many other bands including " Accoustic Flight ( air force accoustic group) Altered scales, spellbound, Pipers, heavy water, ston'd etc.
Profile of Lounge Piranha:
A Bangalore band formed in 2005, they've hit the local music scene with a unique sound that can only be called their own. Ambient soundscapes combined with guitar distortion are layered on top of a tight rhythm section consisting of drums and bass. If you had to label it with a genre, it would probably fall under alternative rock. A typical concert would consist of an almost exclusively original set which includes several of their own songs - fast gaining cult popularity, arresting visual effects, and some ethereal jams with guest artists varying from dijeridoo blowers to djembe players. And maybe even a couple of unexpected covers.
In recent times Lounge Piranha has been rapidly gaining popularity with some high profile shows around the city (see performances below). From being voted as one of Bangalore 's top three bands in the Radio City Live poll in Mar 06 to opening the Vh1 Rock Rules show featuring Taxiride in Jun 06, the band has come a long way since its conception. While enjoying the bright lights and the big audiences the band also continues to moonlight the smaller stages with packed shows at pubs and clubs around the city. After winning the Indian TFA award in early 2007 and armed with a demo recorded in late 2006, the band is now all set to start gigging at other venues around the country.
Members:
George Mathen is an artist by day and fully in control of the drum kit by night. He is also responsible for Piranha's visual identity.
Rohan Ramesh, current medical student and future quack, takes care of the bottom end with proficiency on his Warwick bass guitar.
Kamal Singh on guitar and vocals, uses lots of alternate tuning and open strings, and hits the grunge spot with alarming accuracy.
Abhijeet Tambe on guitar and vocals emerges from the tangle of the electronic loops in his studio to provide the ambient soundscapes with lots of guitar delay and reverb.

April is here! With most exams over, a smile of relief would have replaced the wrinkles of anxiety on parents' faces. Our Summer Workshop for kids kicks in on 2nd of April and goes up to 22nd May. While most workshops are already full, there are a few seats available for the Neeraj Kabi theatre workshop (kids between 13 and 16). He is truly top-class and one of the most popular in Mumbai for Prithvi Theatre's summer workshops. Rush to Ranga Shankara to register if you haven't done so already.
April turns out to be a month of premieres. Veenapani Chawla and her Adishakti (from Pondicherry) come down for the Bangalore premiere of their new production titled The Hare and The Tortoise. Those of us who have seen her Ganapati (during our Fest '04), Brihhannala, etc. know that the tickets will disappear before one can say "The Hare and The..."!
Aneka, the young and energetic troupe run by Suresh Anagalli is celebrating a festival of their plays while Nenapaadalu Shakuntale and Maduve Hennu are their popular plays, Mr. BBS Cultured Aadaddu is premiering in this Aneka Fest. Some feast of Kannada plays this will be!
S Surendranath comes back with a new production too. His Sanket troupe follows its super-duper hit Neenaanaadrenaaneenena with Sankramana which is adapted by the director himself. Anmol Vellani directs Exit the King for Toto Funds the Arts that will premiere in April.
