Dec 19-21: First Conference on Securities Markets 2008 

"Dear Colleague,


National Institute for Securities Markets (NISM) has been established by the Securities and Exchange Board of India as a public trust. It has the mandate to catalyze knowledge initiatives for enhancing the quality of markets.   NISM  will host its first annual Conference on Securities Markets 2008 during 19-21 December 2008.    The theme of the conference is Structure, Microstructure and Regulation of Securities Markets and all papers having implications to regulation of securities markets are preferred.

Professor Robert Engle, the winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize for Economics, has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote address at the conference.   And there are many interesting stuff coming up in this conference.  Request you to watch out for more updates at  www.nismindia.com.

First Conference on Securities Markets 2008

 "Structure, Microstructure and Regulation of Securities Markets"

Mumbai, India, 19th - 21st December 2008

National Institute of Securities Markets, Mumbai, India

 
"Structure, Microstructure and Regulation of Securities Markets" will be the theme of the First Conference on Securities Markets of the National Institute for Securities Markets (NISM), recently set up by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the apex regulatory authority for the securities markets in India. The conference will be held in Mumbai, India from 19th to 21st December 2008.

 

The conference will feature presentations and panel discussions of 12-15 invited or competitively selected international papers on market microstructure and regulation (including perhaps a few papers specifically on India). The conference is being sponsored, among others, by ICICI Bank, a leading bank in India. It targets an audience of leading business leaders, regulators, and scholars in the area of market microstructure and regulation. ICICI has also sponsored Best Paper Award(s).

 

Professor Robert Engle, the winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize for Economics, has kindly agreed to deliver the keynote address at the conference. The program committee for the conference is chaired by Professor Pradeep Yadav (Oklahoma) and includes Professors Ravi Anshuman (IIM Bangalore), Hank Bessembinder (Utah), Tarun Chordia (Emory), Terry Hendershott (UC Berkeley), Marc Lipson (Darden, Virginia), Narayan Naik (London Business School), Paul Schultz (Notre Dame), Marti Subrahmanyam (New York University), and S. Viswanathan (Duke).

Papers on all aspects of the structure, microstructure and the regulation of securities markets, both theoretical and empirical, are welcome.  Please note the following important submission information:

September 30, 2008:  Deadline for submission of papers
October 15, 2008:  Communication of decision to authors

Mumbai is the financial and business capital of India. NISM will host all authors, co-authors and discussants of accepted papers (including accommodation, boarding and lodging) for the duration of the conference. NISM will, if necessary, also provide limited travel support for the presenters to attend the conference.
