We are happy to announce a 1 day session on August 15th 2008 on The New Cosmic Human Story: Our Evolutionary History and Future in Chennai. Please find details below.

As the 21st Century gathers pace, we need a way to make sense of our lives that takes into account the rapidly exploding knowledge the human race is accumulating in fields as diverse as cosmology, psychology, cultural developmental theories and even spirituality. What does it mean to be a human being- where have we come from? Who are we now- what is our purpose? In this two-part seminar we will first step back to take a sweeping look at 13.7 billion years of evolution that has resulted in the emergence of the human species. Next we take a deeper look at the development of human culture itself as it has evolved through thousands of years. What values motivated our distant ancestors? How do these values continue in us now and what has changed? We will use the lens of the theory of cultural transformation called Spiral Dynamics to look at the process of change itself so that we can arrive at a deeper understanding of ourselves, of the complexity of modern life and of the evolutionary predicament and opportunity of the present moment.

The powerful forces of evolution and value structures described above are all active within us as individual human beings. We will experientially ground this entire investigation in the very essence of our beings by considering how we can move beyond a merely intellectual grasp of these matters. This knowledge can free our capacity to make meaningful choices in the lives that we are actually living and thus empower us to become agents of change.

Session's Leader:

Dr. Sridhar Pingali combines a keen interest in science and technology with a passion for philosophical and spiritual inquiry. Apart from acquiring a B.Tech from IIT Madras and a doctorate in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, his study and experience has taken him on an over 25-year journey that has spanned many traditions and philosophies - bhakti yoga, Advaita Vedanta, the teachings of J. Krishnamurti, Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism, and for the last 15 years the Evolutionary Enlightenment teachings of Andrew Cohen. Dr. Pingali leads an active professional life as a senior scholar and technologist in the high-tech sector. Additionally and in collaboration with What Is Enlightenment? magazine's Senior Editor Dr. Elizabeth Debold, he has acted as the Program Coordinator and faculty for the MA degree program in Conscious Evolution offered by The Graduate Institute in Connecticut. He resides with his wife at the main centre and community established by Andrew Cohen in Lenox, Massachusetts.
