As we leave behind another year of relentless theatre performances, we look back with a sense of achievement. A play every day is not an easy feat, given that the concept did not exist in Bangalore. An achievement that puts a proud smile on our faces even as our eyes moisten!
Over these years, we have strived to bring cutting edge work from around the world to Bangalore. The offer from the Goethe Institut and Max Mueller Bhavan to bring the superlative performers Sasha Waltz and Guests of Germany for an improvised piece, and the happy occasion of the Swiss Arts Council opening its office in India with Hell's Bells and Furtive Fury from Compagnie Drift of Switzerland, both Dance Theatre performances, are gifts that once again make us feel chosen both as the venue and collaborators. We truly hope that you will seize this opportunity to see a new kind of expression in performing arts. These are performances that are highly acclaimed the world over and it will be several months, if not years, before we can bring something similar.
The Kannada Theatre groups of Bangalore bring some exquisite new plays to Ranga Shankara this month. Aneka's Shakuntala, Samudaya's Jugari Cross, and Kalagangotri's Mysoora Mallige, are plays that are poised to be landmark productions.
Our children's production, Gumma Banda Gumma is scheduled for three shows to public and four exclusive ones to schools. You should perhaps offer this as an incentive to your kids studying hard for the imminent annual exams!
See you at RS!
