This ad appeared in the Times of India Bangalore on May 4th, 2006. Surprise, Surprise! The Government Flying Training School (GFTS) at Jakkur (Bangalore) is up for privatization!! GFTS @ Jakkur has been beleagured by a spate of problems. It was defunct till 2002 when it was resuscitated , coinciding with the beginning of aviation boom in the country. Now, again it is in doldrums as the CFI (Chief Flying Instructor) Mr Jai Prakash has left the school. Also, credit this to its bad luck, Jakkur airfield (which also comes under the same authority) has seen witnessed some accidents in the last 2 years. In one accident, southern actress Soundarya had died in a take-off crash while leaving for hustings. Also, another small plane had a dry-tank crash near Jakkur in Hebbal Lake last year. Good for the city flying enthusiasts that its being privatised. Its ironic that a city thats considered Mecca of aviation in India doesn't have ANY flying school as of now. Hopefully, things will improve post privatization. On a more serious note, anybody interested in the grabs? Lets talk! Deadline is 22nd May!
